“HP iPod” Shows up at COMPUSA?!
Ok. Here’s the deal. I am not a total “brand freak”. I use a Mac. I love my Mac. I love Apple. I also happily own and cherish an Averatec Notebook and my hp iPAQ. So this is not to blindly bash on HP or to take the tone of an “Apple-happy I hate Windows freak“.
Now that I have cleared the air. What the heck is HP thinking? The majority of models in the new iPaq line are essentially a bad sequel to the last batch (I’ll be sticking to my curvacious, thin and pretty h1945 for awhile). But even more disappointing is that you can’t even come up with your own damn mp3 player? Dell did it. I am sure it wasn’t that hard.
Why am I ranting here over this seemingly minor issue? Well it’s because I thought that HP has always been about innovation. In the past I believe that they truly were. Now? I think it’s all about the money. I suggest that HP loses the “invent” tagline on their branding. They obviously aren’t “inventing” anything.
To at least be fair to HP, I can at least give COMPUSA partial credit for misrepresenting the information in the current Sunday ad. On the front page they headline it this way: “Introducing the HP iPod!” C’mon. What do you expect COMPUSA? You thinking that the “anti-Apple” crowd is going to come running in to finally pick up an iPOD?
In viewing the current hpshopping.com ad (also included in my Sunday paper), I noticed a much more modest approach to this marketing by HP. The headline on this ad reads: “HAVE YOU HEARD? THE NEW Apple iPod FROM HP”. At least here the marketing team doesn’t fail to mention some credit for who actually developed the world’s #1 portable music player.
P.S. Am I getting grumpy in my old age (30′s) or what? LOL!
