On the day Microsoft officially unveiled Windows Mobile 5.0, HP announced that it was going to release upgrades for some, but not all, of its latest Pocket PCs.
To sweeten this deal, this company is now offering free operating system upgrades to those who purchase a new iPAQ hx2000 series model running Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
HP will give a free Windows Mobile 5.0 Upgrade CD to anyone who buys an iPAQ hx2110, hx2410, hx2415, hx2750 or hx2755.
More information, and the necessary form, can be found on HP’s web site. Forms must be postmarked within 45 days of purchase.
HP hasn’t said exactly when the upgrades will be available, but they are expected soon.
Dell also has a similar offer for those who purchase a Axim X50 series model.
No hx4700 in Sight
Although HP’s flagship handheld, the iPAQ hx4700, will get a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade, it is not included in this offer.
This is because HP recently had to admit that the operating system upgrade for this device has been delayed until next spring.
Presumably, when the release of this upgrade is drawing near, HP will institute a free Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for those purchasing an hx4700 at that time.
