Some may have written off the traditional handheld, but HP is obviously not in this group. This company has revealed plans to release a new iPAQ without cellular-wireless capabilities next month.
This is a pre-announcement, so HP isn’t revealing all the details on this model at this point. Still, it is willing to give an overall picture of it.
As its name suggests, the iPAQ rx4000 Mobile Media Companion will be focused on multimedia. It will have a 2.8-inch touchscreen for video playback, although HP has not yet revealed the resolution for this.
It’s quite possible there will be different models in this series with varying screen resolutions. Many will certainly expect a multimedia-oriented Pocket PC like this one to include a VGA screen, but a less-expensive QVGA model might also be part of this series.
Naturally, this handheld will come with the mobile version of Windows Media Player, which can handle both music and video.
The rx4000 will also offer integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Unlike dedicated media players, this Pocket PC will come with a suite of productivity applications, like Microsoft Office Mobile, and a web browser and email application.
As mentioned earlier, not all the details on this Windows Mobile device are available yet. What its processor speed will be and how much internal storage capacity it will offer remain unknown, for example.
HP plans to introduce the iPAQ rx4000 some time next month. Prices will start at $299.
