With absolutely no fanfare, HP appears to be delivering upgraded versions of some of its hx2000 series Pocket PCs.
Two of the three existing models, the hx2190 and hx2490, each came with a standard 128 MB of flash memory for the operating system and user storage.
But HP’s web site now reflects new versions of these iPAQs, each of which has 192 MB of flash.
This is confirmed by a reader of Pocket PC Thoughts, who noted that the new hx2490s were being received by the store he works at.
The hx2790 appears to be unchanged.
An Overview of the iPAQ hx2000 Series
All of the models in the hx2000 series have a great deal in common. They run Windows Mobile 5.0 and have 3.5-inch, 240-by-320-pixel (QVGA) displays. They have both a CompactFlash Type II and an SD/MMC/SDIO slot.
They aren’t identical, though. The hx2490 has both WiFi and Bluetooth 1.2. , while the hx2190 has only Bluetooth.
All of them come with a translucent plastic flipcover.
