Hewlett Packard has just announced the Photosmart Mobile Camera, a digital camera that will fit in the SD slots on iPAQ Pocket PCs. It will be able to take both still pictures and video.
It offers a 1.3 megapixel resolution, which means it will be able to take pictures at least 1280×960 pixels. It will sport a 4X digital zoom. Its lens will be able to rotate a full 180 degrees to take images at a variety of angles. In addition, users will be able to record video and also include a personal audio message to play while viewing the images.
Of course, users will be able to email the images directly from the iPAQ. The Photosmart Mobile Camera will also come with HP Mobile Printing for Pocket PC, which allows users to print documents and images directly from the iPAQ to Bluetooth, infrared, and network printers.
Or images can be easily transferred from the iPAQ to a desktop or notebook. During each ActiveSync session, new images saved on the iPAQ will be automatically moved to the PC. There they can be made part of a slideshow or Web album.
This isn’t the first camera accessory for Pocket PCs. However, HP claims that, at 1.1 ounces, it is the lightest.
HP has not announced which handhelds will be compatible with the Photosmart Mobile Camera . Not all iPAQs offer SDIO support, which is needed for this camera. However, all the iPAQs released this summer offer SDIO. It is not known if other Pocket PCs with SDIO support will be able to use this.
This accessory is expected to be released in October. HP has not yet announced a price. However, News.com says it will cost less than $150.
