It is available now from CompUSA. This company’s central shipping area is currently sold out, but many retail locations have this model in stock. CompUSA’s web site can display which stores have them.

Not surprising for a device with all these features, the price tag is quite high: $900.’s web site is listing the X7501 as "coming soon" with a price of $850.

An Overview of the HTC Advantage X7501

The Advantage has a unique design. This starts out in a standard enough fashion: a tablet with a touchscreen. Added to that, though, is a detachable keyboard. The main unit can be magnetically connected to one side of the keyboard to make a laptop-like shape.

The keyboard can not be used unless it is physically connected to the main unit. However, the main unit, of course, is completely usable without the keyboard, thanks to its touchscreen.

This handheld sports numerous high-end features, like a 5-inch VGA screen, an 8 GB hard drive, TV-out port, a GPS receiver, and a 3-megapixel camera with flash.

By plugging in a SIM card, the Advantage can be used a mobile phone with many carriers, as it supports quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks. In addition it offers tri-band HSDPA/UMTS.

It will also include Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0.

It runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional on a 624 MHz XScale processor, has 128 MB of RAM, and 256 MB of ROM. A miniSD card slot will add extra expansion options.

The X7501 comes with Microsoft’s Office Mobile. For entertainment, it includes a version of Windows Media Player and stereo speakers.

Not surprisingly, this won’t be a small device. Just the main unit is 5.3 inches wide, 3.9 inches tall, and 0.8 inches thick with keyboard attached (99 mm x 134 mm x 20 mm).

Its 2200 mAh battery is supposed to bring 5.5 hours of talk time with the screen off, or 300 hours of stand-by time.

More information on the HTC Advantage X7501 can be found on its manufacturer’s web site.
