An HTC executive has confirmed rumors and speculation that the HTC Diamond will debut at a press event his company has scheduled for early May.
CFO Cheng Hui-ming said the Diamond will be introduced on May 6, according to the Taipei Times. "This is the most important product for HTC this year," Cheng said. "With this phone, we’re confident of landing orders from most major operators."
An Overview of the HTC Diamond
Cheng was talking about the financial implications of this upcoming Windows Mobile smartphone, and therefore didn’t give a detailed description of it. However, earlier unconfirmed reports have revealed many of its specifications.
The device is expected to be offically called the HTC Touch Diamond, and be the replacement for the very popular original HTC Touch.
Like its predecessor, it won’t have a hardware keyboard but instead be focused on its touchscreen. But it will supposedly have a number of upgrades, like a VGA display, a 3-megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, and an updated version of this company’s fingertip-oriented application launcher, Touch FLO.
There will certainly be both GSM and CDMA versions with 3G support, and some of these will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and/or GPS.
Another Touch Model
Another model that could be unveiled at the May 6 event has the code-name Raphael, but is expected to be called the HTC Touch Pro.
This will reportedly have the same internal specifications as the Diamond, but include a landscpe-oriented sliding keyboard.
