Verizon has begun sending out an operating system upgrade to the HTC Droid Incredible 2. This contains no dramatic improvements, but many users think its many small changes enhance the overall experience.
This smartphone debuted in April running Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) but the newer version — OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) — is going out now.
This upgrade is being sent by Verizon over the air directly to this handset. Users also have the option to manually request it by going to Settings > System Updates > HTC Software Update > Check Now. That said, this carrier’s servers don’t have the capacity to send out a 116MB file to every Droid Incredible 2 on the same day, so it’s done in stages over a week or so.
What’s New in Android OS 2.3
Google says that this is the fastest version of its operating system yet. Plus, there’s a new Downloads app that will help users manage files downloaded from the browser, email or another application. A Desktop Dock app has been added too.
In addition, a number of modifications have been made to the user interface that have proved to be popular, and Google has made this version even more stable than its predecessor.
