The highly-anticipated HTC Droid Incredible follow up, named logically enough the Droid Incredible 2, is just days away from availability. The worldphone is reportedly already arriving in the stockrooms of many Verizon stores, and should be on shelves before the end of April.
The Incredible 2 has some large shoes to fill after the popularity of its predecessor. The original Droid Incredible received a perfect five-star score from Brighthand, though the Incredible 2 should be up to the challenge as it will feature several upgrades.
Internally, this upcoming model will have a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, 768 MB of RAM, and 1.1 GB of internal storage. It will sport Android 2.2 (Froyo) at launch, with an eventual upgrade to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) planned.
According to details that have leaked out ahead of an official announcement, the Incredible 2 will be bundled with a 16GB microSD card, and will support both Verizon’s CDMA network and the more internationally-friendly GSM networks, making the phone usable in countries other than the United States.
It will have a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480) Super LCD display and measure 4.7 by 2.5 by 0.5 inches. This model is going to improve on the original Incredible’s 5-megapixel camera, instead featuring an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera in addition to a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
So the HTC Droid Incredible 2 is currently sitting in Verizon stores’ dark, back rooms, but when will it find its way into customers’ hands? Information leaking out of this carrier says that consumers can expect the launch this Thursday, April 28. It will supposedly sell for $200 with a two-year wireless service contract. This is the usual price for a high-end smartphone these days.
This is one of a number of new Android models coming to Verizon this spring. The Samsung Droid Charge will debut on Wednesday, for example, and the LG Revolution is expected next month, and so is the Motorola Droid X 2. The Motorola Droid Bionic won’t be on the market until this summer.
