Sprint has introduced a new smartphone that supports its WiMAX network, the HTC EVO Shift 4G. It is launching at a lower price than any previous 4G-capable phone.
The EVO Shift 4G — which was officially unveiled last week at the Consumer Electronics Show — is available on Sprint’s website for $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate and activation of a two-year wireless voice and data contract. It is $400 without a contract.
HTC EVO Shift 4G Overview
This new model has a 3.6-inch, WVGA, capacitive multi-touch display and a landscape-oriented sliding keyboard.
It runs Google’s Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on an 800 MHz processor from Qualcomm, and has 512 MB of RAM. Internal storage capacity is 2 GB, while the device has a microSD memory card slot for additional storage.
The EVO Shift 4G offers more than just Sprint’s WiMAX service — it also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as the ability to serve as a mobile hotspot for up to eight other Wi-Fi enabled devices.
It includes a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video recording, but no front-facing camera.
The HTC EVO Shift 4G also sports a 1,500 mAh Li-ion battery, and proximity-, light-, and G-sensors plus a digital compass.
