In the wake of Microsoft’s official look at Windows Phone 8, device manufacturers are already making plans for the?mobile operating system, with the latest news coming from an inside source about HTC.

HTC LogoHTC’s Windows Phone 8 plans are apparently far more detailed than Huawei, which just announced yesterday that it would be releasing an Ascend model running the OS, but providing virtually no other information. An unnamed source has informed The Verge that HTC intends to release a series of three Windows Phone 8 devices: Rio, Accord, and Zenith.

A Tale of Three Smartphones

Rio is supposedly going to be the lowest-specced device, with a 4-inch WVGA display, 14.4 Mbps HSPA connection, and a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture. The phone will be powered by a respectable Qualcomm MSM8227 chip, which is a member of the Snapdragon S4 Plus line, though it will only have 512MB of RAM on board.

Then there’s the Accord, which will be a slight step up, featuring a 4.3-inch, 720p Super LCD 2 display and an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture. The data connection is going to see an improvement as well, with the Accord sporting a 42 Mbps HSPA+ connection, in addition to NFC support, 1GB of RAM, and a slightly more powerful dual-core processor. The Verge reports that the processor is tentatively slated to be an MSM8260A, but that is apparently subject to change.

And finally there is the top-of-the-line, powerhouse model, the Zenith. The device is allegedly going to feature a 4.7-inch, 720 Super LCD screen, an 8 megapixel camera (the same as the Accord), 42 Mbps HSPA+, and a currently-unnamed quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

The Rio, Accord, and Zenith are all expected to ship later this year. The Rio and Accord will be coming out in October, while the Zenith is launching at an unknown time in Q4.
