Information about the HTC Runnymede has been leaking out for some time, but the first picture of this upcoming Android smartphone has just leaked out. The stand-out feature of this model will be its 4.7-inch touchscreen.
Many of the specifications of the Runnymede are already public knowledge, even though HTC has yet to unveil it. This is shaping up to be an advanced handset, though not in all areas.
For example, even though reports say it will have a display larger than almost all its rivals, the resolution will WVGA (800 x 480) not qHD (960 x 540) as is becoming common in cutting-edge smartphones. The Runnymede is going to run Android OS 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) on a 1.5GHz single-core processor, though dual-core chips are used by many of its rivals.
Some definitely high-end features will supposedly be included, such as 16 GB of internal storage and DLNA wireless multimedia sharing. It is going to have an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera plus a front-facing one for chatting.
HTC recently purchased Beats Technology, and Runnymede is allegedly going to come with a pair of headphones made by this company. The Beats logo will also appear on its back.
One of the items still not known is the official name. Until then, it will continue to go by its code-name.
The price and release date for this handset are equally unknown. Still, it might be unveiled at an event HTC has scheduled for Sept. 20 in New York City.
If the Runnymede’s specifications sound familiar, it’s because HTC is also making a version running Microsoft’s Windows Phone. This model, the HTC Titan, is going to be released by HTC later this fall.
