Infiniti and AvantGo Bring College Hoops to Smartphones and PDAs

With March roaring in like a lion, college basketball playoffs are a welcome diversion to the transition from winter to spring. This year, mobile device users will “score” thanks to Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan North America, Inc., and sponsor of this year’s AvantGo College Hoops channel. Back by popular demand, the 2005 Infiniti College Hoops mobile website provides all of the exciting NCAA Men’s Division I tournament action, delivering game-day information directly to users’ smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDA) wirelessly or via desktop synchronization.

The College Hoops channel sponsored by Infiniti provides mobile users with news and editorials from The Sporting News and the latest scores, schedules and bracket information so they can stay current with the college basketball tournament when they are on-the-go. The mobile website also builds awareness for the all-new Infiniti M luxury performance sedan, helping Infiniti to reach a captive and engaged audience of 24-54 year-old tech-savvy users. Not only can NCAA basketball fans throughout the country follow their favorite teams all the way to the Final Four, they can also learn more about the features and functionality of the Infiniti M including vehicle specifications, high- resolution photos and the ability to request more information. Infiniti’s decision to sponsor the 2005 College Hoops channel was based on the outstanding results it experienced with the 2003 College Hoops channel sponsorship debuting the FX45 premium crossover SUV.

“AvantGo allows Infiniti to deliver valued content to its target consumers — busy mobile professionals who rely on technology to stay connected. The College Hoops channel keeps basketball fans connected to the tournament and at the same time, they have the chance to learn more about the Infiniti M,” said Doug Simpson, manager, interactive marketing, Nissan North America. “We had excellent results from our past College Hoops Channel sponsorship and are excited to be working with AvantGo once more.”

“The NCAA basketball tournament is the most popular online sporting event each year, thanks to the popularity of brackets and office pools,” said Neil Versen, senior director of AvantGo. “More and more, users are relying on wireless access to information that is important to them-such as tournament scores and stats. AvantGo keeps smartphone and PDA users connected no matter where they might be-standing in line, on the road, at the airport or even on vacation. Infiniti recognized the unique opportunity to tap into that highly desirable target audience of users on-the go. We’re pleased to be working with a great brand like Infiniti to help them build awareness for their new vehicle.”
