Twitter’s Vine video service was dealt a sizeable blow when Facebook stepped into the ring with Instagram Video. A new report from Marketing Land suggests that Vine could be in serious trouble as Instagram Video appears to be devouring the company’s user base.
Using Topsy’s analytics tool, Marketing Land conducted a quick analysis of links to Instagram and links to Vine posted on Twitter for a 30-day period ending on June 26. The results were pretty dismal for Twitter’s Vine service.
According to Topsy, Vine video sharing sat at around 2.5 million on June 19, the day before Facebook announced its Instagram Video sharing service. The next day that figure dropped 40 percent, and it continued to decline to just 919,000 on June 26.
While Vine video sharing was on the decline, Instagram video and image sharing was on the rise, recording a total of 1.49 million on June 26.
