HP’s first handheld to offer built-in GSM/GPRS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth can now be purchased from a variety of sources. This model allows users to access the Internet from practically anywhere while using the fastest wireless networking option available at any given time. It also can function as a mobile phone.
Shopper.com lists numerous online stores that carry the iPAQ h6315, though few if any of these actually have it in stock. Even HP has this handheld backordered.
Still, many people have reported finding the h6315 at CompUSA stores. At the very least, many of this retailer’s stores have demo units on display for those who would like to test this device out before ordering one.
T-Mobile Providing Service
However, no matter where it is purchased, the only wireless carrier that currently supports the h6315 is T-Mobile. The units being sold by CompUSA are simlocked to this service provider.
T-Mobile is currently offering a pair of service plans that include both unlimited GPRS and Wi-Fi. An $80 per month plan includes 1,000 “whenever” minutes, while a $100 monthly plan includes 1,500 “whenever” minutes.
For a limited time, T-Mobile is offering the h6315 for $500. The list price for this cellular-wireless model is $600.
An Overview of the iPAQ h6315
The iPAQ h6315 runs Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC on a 200 MHz TI OMAP 1510 processor. It includes 64 MB of RAM, of which 55 MB is user accessible. Up to 20 MB of its ROM is also available for additional storage, and an SDIO-capable SD/MMC slot allows the user to store even more files and applications.
The h6300 is a Quad-Band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM/GPRS device, meaning it can be used in the U.S., Europe, and almost every other country.
To allow users to more easily type emails and SMS messages, a clip-on keyboard comes with this handheld.
Those purchasing an h6315 might be interested to know that Pocket PC Techs has already released a pair of screen protectors designed specifically for this model.
In addition, this company has confirmed that its Lil’ Sync Pro retractable charge and sync cable for the iPAQ h4000 series is also compatible with the h6315.
