iPAQ hx4700 Mentioned on HP’s Site

Information about a number of upcoming iPAQ Models first emerged last month. One of the models that attracted the most attention in this group is the hx4700, which is supposed to be first iPAQ with a VGA screen.

Despite all the rumors, there has been no direct confirmation that this handheld exists. Until today.

On a page listing available drivers and other support materials, HP’s web site has a reference to the “HP iPaq hx4700 TV Pocket PC.” There are no files associated with this entry.

What is most interesting in this reference is the “TV” part. None of the earlier rumors make any mention of the hx4700 having any TV-related features. Instead, this is supposed to be a handheld targeted at business users.

An Overview of the iPAQ hx4700

As has already been mentioned, the hx4700 is expected to be the first iPAQ ever to include a 4-inch VGA display. As this model will use Windows Mobile Second Edition, this screen can be easily switched between portrait and landscape modes.

This device will have 128 MB of RAM and 64 MB of ROM, some of which will be available to the user for additional storage.

The hx4700 will supposedly also sport both 802.11b and Bluetooth 1.2 wireless networking, as well as a CompactFlash slot and an SD/MMC slot that supports SDIO. It will come with a cradle.

This handheld is expected to be released in July for $649.

More information on the hx4700 is available in this article.
