Last month, images and video of a pre-release iPhone made headlines, and now Apple has apparently lost a second unit.

The person who has somehow obtained this prototype has disassembled it, revealing that it is running an Apple A4 processor, the same chip thatdebuted in the new iPad.

Apple iPhone 4GThe A4 is an ARM-based chip that runs at 1 GHz and includes a built-in graphics processor. It is being manufactured by Samsung.

The holder of the iPhone prototype took a number of pictures of it, but aside from the confirmation of the A4 processor, they do not reveal much new information.

This unit does not appear to be fully functional, so it can’t be confirmed that this device will run iPhone OS 4.0. The next version of Apple’s operating system will be the first to allow third-party applications to run in the background.

The prototype has 16 GB of built-in storage, indicating that Apple will offer at least one unit with this capacity. The company is also expected to offer 32 GB and 64 GB versions.

Apple iPhone 4GThe next iPhone is rumored to have a 960 x 640 pixel touchscreen, but this has yet to be confirmed.

A front-facing camera is definitely present on the prototype, lending credence to reports that the next iPhone will support iChat video conferencing. It will also supposedly have a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash.

Apple has scheduled an event on June 22 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, where all previous iPhones were unveiled, making this a likely date for the announcement of the fourth-generation version.
