iPhone 5 Might Not Debut Until Late October

Apple is reportedly going to take the wraps off the long-overdue iPhone 5 at a media event in early October, and then launch this device a few weeks later. Previous reports had indicated that this much-anticipated new smartphone would have been on the market a bit earlier.

The big unveiling will be October 4, according to an unconfirmed report from AllThingsD. This source was not able to peg down an exact launch date, other than “a few weeks after the announcement”.

The launch date for the next-gen iPhone has been a subject of rumors and debate for many months. Most recently, reports had indicated a late September announcement and an early- to mid-October launch. It’s possible this delay (if it is a delay) is a result of production issues that had supposedly cropped up.

No Jobs Available
Long time Apple fans apparently should not expect Steve Jobs to be ringmaster at the Oct. 4 event. Although Jobs introduced all of this company’s previous smartphones, he recently stepped down as CEO for health reasons.

More about the Apple iPhone 5
Even though the launch is finally drawing near, only a fuzzy picture of this upcoming high-end handset has emerged. Apple has, naturally, done its best to keep the details a mystery before the announcement.

According to the best information available, the fifth-generation iPhone will be wider than any of its predecessors, with a slightly larger screen. It will also supposedly be thinner, with a teardrop profile and a smaller bezel around the display.

Unofficial reports indicate the Home button will be enlarged into a gesture area, and the camera is going to be upgraded to 8MP. Other upgrades include a dual-core Apple A4 processor and iOS 5.

The iPhone 5 will certainly be introduced by AT&T and Verizon, and Sprint will supposedly be releasing a version for the first time. Pricing is not yet known, but this is always carefully controlled by Apple to prevent carriers from underbidding each other.
