There have been reports for some time that Apple is going to shrink the size of the Dock connector on its mobile devices, and the latest to throw its weight behind this story is Reuters.
According to this news service, the 30-pin port on the iPhone and iPad is going to be replaced with a 19-pin one. This will give Apple designers room to move the audio port from the top of the handset to the bottom.
Some of the images supposedly giving the world an early look at the next-generation iPhone have shown the smaller port and the re-located audio port.
According to a previous report, Apple is going to use this change to make it impossible for third-party accessory makers to release cables without Apple’s permission.
The next iPhone is widely expected to be released in October, a year after the debut of the iPhone 4S.
