iPhone, BlackBerry Users Get Free Wi-Fi Service from AT&T

Access to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots is now available for Apple iPhone customers for free. The same will soon be true for many AT&T subscribers who have a BlackBerry.

The latest version of the iPhone has 3G access, but Wi-Fi offers an even faster wireless connection. And first-generation iPhone users — who depend on the 2.5G service EDGE — can benefit even more.

The BlackBerry Bold is set to launch on Nov. 4, and it will also be able to use AT&T’s Wi-Fi hotspots, as long as the user has an unlimited data plan. In addition, users of the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 and the BlackBerry 8820 will be able to take advantage of this offer later this year.

More about AT&T Hotspots

There are roughly 17,000 AT&T hotspots nationwide, including most Barnes & Noble and Starbucks stores. The coffee giant has an online form for finding nearby locations.

“We have the industry’s leading lineup of smartphones, along with the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network. It only makes sense for us to bring these unique capabilities together for our customers,” said David Christopher , chief marketing officer of AT&T’s mobility business unit.

More information is available on AT&T’s website.
