iPods Take Another Step Towards Becoming PDAs

Obviously, everyone knows that Apple’s iPods can be used as music players, but many people might not be aware that they also can act as PDAs, albeit in a limited fashion.

For quite some time, these devices have been able to synchronize with Microsoft Entourage, Palm Desktop, and iCal. But this feature has only been for Mac users.

Today, Apple released iTunes 5, which allows Windows iPod users to synchronize their calendar information with Outlook, and their address book entries with Outlook or Outlook Express.

Hurricane Relief Still, iPod owners need to be aware that there’s no way to add or modify a contact or an appointment directly on their device. It’s strictly read-only.

iTunes 5 is available now, for free, from the Apple web site.
