LOS ANGELES, CA — Global wireless entertainment publisher JAMDAT Mobile Inc. announced today an agreement with Nickelodeon and the release of the mobile game based on “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” the best-selling children’s book series and major feature release by Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks and Nick Movies starring Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep and Jude Law. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2004.
“JAMDAT is pleased to bring this popular children’s book series to wireless,” said Mitch Lasky, chairman and CEO of JAMDAT Mobile Inc. “We are excited to deliver an interactive Lemony Snicket experience that appeals to mobile gamers both young and old.”
“JAMDAT’s experience in mobile entertainment and its relationships with wireless carriers is essential in bringing ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’ to a wider audience,” said Paul Jelinek, VP of new business development, Nickelodeon Online. “Nickelodeon Online’s mission has always been to create unique entertainment experiences for kids. We have already created successful interactive experiences online and now kids can interact with their favorite characters on mobile phones.”
The popular children’s book series, “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” is a pop-gothic tale of mystery and mayhem that ends unhappily ever after. The book chronicles the misadventures of Klaus, Violet and Sunny, three charming, intelligent, but terribly unlucky Baudelaire orphans who are in search of a new home after their parents perish in a terrible fire. The clueless executor of the Baudelaire estate, Mr. Poe, assigns a series of inadequate guardians. At every turn, the orphans are pursued by the evil Count Olaf and his troupe of despicable henchpersons, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on the Baudelaire fortune.
The game is launching on multiple US wireless carriers. For specific carrier and handset availability, JAMDAT’s Game Finder can be found at www.jamdat.com.
