Kyocera 7135 Palm OS Smartphone Due Tomorrow

Kyocera 7135 Kyocera Wireless Corp.has announced that ALLTEL will begin offering the Kyocera 7135 on Friday for $499, marking the domestic retail debut of this Palm OS smartphone.

It features a clamshell design with the screen on one side and the Graffiti area, buttons, and a phone keypad on the other. It is 4.0 by 2.4 by 1.2 inches when closed. It weighs 6.6 ounces. The 7135 has a 160 by 160 pixel, 65,000-color display, an SD/MMC slot, and a built-in MP3 player. It runs Palm OS 4.1 on a 33 MHz DragonBall MZ processor and has 16 MB of RAM.

The Kyocera 7135 is a trimode Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless phone, operating on CDMA PCS (1900 MHz), CDMA cellular (800 MHz) and analog cellular networks. It uses CDMA2000 1X technology that enables peak data speeds of 153 kbps, though 40 kbps to 60 kbps is more realistic. It includes assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology.

The Kyocera 7135 also offers a speakerphone, voice-activated dialing, silent vibrating alert, two-way SMS text messaging, email, and three modes of Web access (HTML, Web Clipping, and WAP). The numeric keypad allows easy, one-touch access to contact and calendar data as well as messages or the Web.

A user-replaceable, 1200 mAh, lithium ion battery provides up to 3.5 hours of talk time and up to 160 hours of standby time in digital mode.
