2013 was a year of many things, but you might call also call it the year of the wearable. We’ve seen new smartwatches from multiple companies (some of which even review well), new curved phones to better fit your body, the rise of Google Glass by the tech elite and its ensuing takedown and trash talking by everyone else, more accessories, more integration – you get where we’re going.
2014 is looking to be more of the same, if rumors of LG’s upcoming Lifeband Touch pan out, and they likely will. Taking cues from both Nike’s Fuelband and Fitbit’s…Fitbit, the Lifeband Touch is a sleek black bracelet with at least one glowing button or display.
What will it do? Nobody knows. Chances are it’ll do what all the competitors do and track movements, exercise, perhaps your calories, pulse, or sleep patterns.
Given LG’s smartphone portfolio, we’re likely to see tight integration with the Lifeband Touch and Android, with perhaps exclusive apps dedicated to their own phones. Pricepoint? Non-existent, though something around $99 wouldn’t be too surprising.
We might see the Lifeband Touch make its debut next week at CES, though LG could wait until February’s Mobile World Congress rolls around. We’ll know for sure in a few days.
Either way, if wearables were big in 2013, this is a sign that they’re going to be absolutely massive in 2014, and I’m not sure about you, but we’re totally excited for it.
