LG May Have Plans to Develop Smartwatch

LG Watch PhoneWith rumors heating up about companies like Apple and Samsung possibly working on their own smartwatches, it doesn’t seem terribly surprising that Korean phone maker LG may want in, too.

PocketDroid recently discovered a series of trademark filings with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, among which was a product dubbed the G Watch. Though there are few other things that the G Watch could possibly be, the other trademarked names were a little more ambiguous, including G Band, G Link, G Hub, G Pad, and G Glass, though admittedly it’s a safe guess that the last two are probably a tablet and a wearable akin to Google Glass, respectively.

That said, however, simply because LG filed a trademark for the G Watch doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s actively working on a smartwatch right this moment. Rather, LG may be simply trying to reserve its share of the market to compete with some of the aforementioned companies later down the road.
