LG was one of the first companies to jump on the bandwagon when Microsoft unveiled its Windows Phone operating system. After weak sales, this Korean company is now out.

LG Fathom Windows PhoneLG says it’s not just its own devices running Microsoft’s OS that are performing poorly. A company spokesperson said, “The total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure.”

Still, it’s keeping its options open, saying it will continue to do research and development on this operating system, even though it has no plans to release any products running it in the foreseeable future.

LG is going to put all its mobile focus on smartphones running the Android OS.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will be in Seoul next month, and there has been some speculation that he will meet with LG and try to convince the company to reverse this decision. At this point, however, no such meeting has been scheduled.
