Microsoft Nears 100K Apps in Windows Store

Windows App StoreMicrosoft is nearing a big milestone that could boost its Windows Phone mobile platform. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced at the company’s Build 2013 conference that he expects the Windows Store — which provides apps across all Windows platforms — to bypass the 100,000 app milestone sometime later this month.

Ballmer’s proclamation seems legitimate according to Metro Scanner, which currently lists over 95,000 aps on the platform’s store. Microsoft also boasted that its Windows Store has seen app downloads that number in the “hundreds of millions.” This indicator could prove to be quite impressive, but Microsoft refrained from offering an actual number, leading some to believe that the boast may have been hyperbole to some extent.
