PalmGear Is Merging with PocketGear

Motricity, Inc. has sent an email to many of its customers to inform them that it is merging two of its online software stores together. In the future, PocketGear.com will offer both Palm OS and Windows Mobile applications.

Once the transition period is over, those with a PalmGear user account will be able to access it on PocketGear, and anyone trying to visit the Palm OS site will be automatically redirected to the site with the combined software catalog.

Apple Releases iPhone Update 1.1.2

Apple has released a very small system update for its iPhone. It’s not clear whether there are any enhancements in this, but it definitely closes the hole in this smartphone’s system software that allows users to run unauthorized third-party applications. However, in the wake of this release developers are working to "jailbreak" the new version.

As with the previous update, iPhone 1.1.2 should be installed by connecting the device to a desktop or laptop running iTunes.

Proporta Starting Christmas Early

Anyone who places an order with the online retailer Proporta between the November 12 and December 31 will automatically be entered into a contest to to win one of a selection of prizes.

Talker2 Developer Needs Help

John Oberschelp, the developer of Talker2, is looking for people to test his text-to-speech library for Palm OS devices. So far, it has only been tested on a Treo 680, a Tungsten E, and a Palm TX.

It comes with a test application that speaks some canned phrases, any text that is entered, or any text in the clipboard.
