Spb Insight Lets Windows Mobile Standard Users Read News Offline

One of the benefits of mobile devices is the ability to read news while on the go. And while many devices and services that offer this capability have been available for years, there is always a better way to do things. A recently released version Spb Insight takes the idea of news and RSS readers and makes it easy for users of Windows Mobile Standard devices to stay abreast of the latest news.

Spb Insight is a full-text and image application which uses RSS/Atom feed integration, and includes the ability to download wirelessly or sync from a desktop to get the latest news to a mobile device. Featuring a large category of channels, or pre-set web sites, a user can quickly get up and running with full article texts, optimized for viewing on mobile devices.

This application has been available for Windows Mobile 6 Professional devices for some time, and now Spb Software has added support for Windows Mobile 6 Standard and Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphone.

A free, 15-day trial is available, or the application can be purchased for $19.95. Users of the Pocket PC version of Spb Insight can get the Smartphone version for free. For more information and to download, visit the Spb Insight web site.

PhatNotes for Outlook Edition Released

Features such as syncing to desktop applications can be a lifeline for some users. However, as mobile software as become more complex, some software has lost its tether to the desktop. PhatNotes was one of those, and despite the fact that its integration with Microsoft Outlook was considered very useful by many, the later editions of this application have not included this feature. However, PhatWare has released PhatNotes for Outlook Edition to address syncing with Microsoft Outlook 2000 or later.

PhatNotes for Outlook includes a simplified version of PhatNotes for both Windows Mobile Standard (non-touchscreen) and Professional/Classic (touchscreen) devices. Microsoft Outlook does not support password protection and text formatting, and so those features were removed from PhatNotes for Outlook to provide more reliable synchronization. The PhatNotes desktop software was replaced with Outlook notes synchronization software that supports ActiveSync 4.5 or later on Windows XP and Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 on Windows Vista.

PhatNotes for Outlook 5.1 is available for $19.95. A free 30-day trial version of PhatNotes for Outlook can be downloaded from the PhatWare web site. There is no special upgrade pricing for previous users of PhatNotes.
