Each month, Brighthand publishes a list of the most popular handhelds and smartphones. This report is compiled based on the number of views each product page receives, so every time someone clicks on a product they’re giving it a vote in these monthly rankings.
This listing doesn’t necessarily indicate which models are the best selling, just which ones Brighthand readers are most interesting in learning more about.
The top of June’s list is dominated by new smartphones, but there’s also some UMPC-like devices on there: the HTC Advantage and the upcoming Palm Foleo.
|1. Apple iPhone (Previously #3) – The iPhone is Apple’s combination smartphone and iPod. This device supports the iTunes music service, and it sports either 4 GB or 8 GB of built-in storage.It’s real claim to fame, though, is its innovative user interface based entirely around its touchscreen. |2. HTC Advantage X7501 (Previously #1) – This upcoming Windows Mobile 6 handheld will sport numerous high-end features, like a 5-inch VGA screen, an 8 GB hard drive, removable keyboard, TV-out port, a GPS receiver, 3-megapixel camera with flash, and HSDPA.|
|3. RIM BlackBerry Curve (8300) (Previously #5) – The BlackBerry Curve, also called the 8300, is one of RIM’s next generation devices with multimedia capabilities, including playing music and video. It has a built-in QWERTY keyboard and a 320-by-240-pixel (QVGA) display. It also includes a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, and a microSD card slot. |4. HTC Mogul (New) – The HTC Mogul is CDMA device created for carriers like Verizon and Sprint (which also calls it the PPC-6800). This is a Pocket PC phone that has a tablet shape, but with a landscape-oriented keyboard that can be hidden behind its QVGA touchscreen. It offers a built-in keyboard, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, and is upgradeable to EV-DO Revision A.

HP iPAQ rx5915 Travel Companion (Previously #4) – The iPAQ rx5915 isn’t being dubbed as a PDA, but rather a Travel Companion as it has a built-in SiRFstar III GSC3F GPS chip and comes bundled with mapping software. |6. Palm Treo 755p (Previously #2) – The Treo 755p debuted during the month of May. It is one of Palm’s first generation of smartphones with a slimmer profile and no external antenna. It runs the Garnet OS (formerly Palm OS Garnet). The 755p was created for CDMA carriers, and offers support for the 3G cellular-wireless networking standard EV-DO. |7. Palm Foleo (New) – When it is released later this summer, the Foleo will be the first in a class of devices Palm is calling Mobile Companions. It will be significantly larger than Palm’s handhelds and smartphones, and will have a clamshell design with a 10-inch display and a full size QWERTY keyboard.|
