Motorola Atrix 4G Price and Release Date Announced

AT&T has just revealed what the Motorola Atrix 4G is going to cost when it debuts early next month. The carrier also promised that those who are eager to get their hands on this cutting-edge smartphone will be able to put in a pre-order soon.

Motorola ATRIX 4G from AT&TThis model has drawn considerable attention not just for its very high-end feature set, but for a pair of innovative accessories that will be able to turn this phone into either a netbook or a desktop.

It was officially announced at the Consumer Electronics Show last month, but at this time, AT&T was vague about pricing and a release date. This has now changed.

Pre-orders for the Atrix 4G will start on Sunday, Feb. 13, but only current AT&T customers will be able to put one in.

It will sell for the typical price for a high-end smartphone: $200 with a two-year service agreement. No mail-in rebates will be required to get this price.

AT&T remains a bit vague about the actual launch date for this Motorola model. The carrier says it will be available “by March 6 or earlier”

Accessories Priced, Too
Those who get an Atrix 4G will have the option to get a laptop dock with an 11-inch display, keyboard, and trackpad, but no operating system. The Atrix 4G will provide this.

Customers will be able to buy this smartphone and the laptop dock for $500 with a two-year service contract that includes a 4 GB Data Pro smartphone data plan with tethering add on, and a $100 mail-in rebate.  It will cost $500 when purchased separately.

AT&T announced today that this accessory will be sold with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, plus a remote control, for $190

Overview of the Motorola Atrix 4G
When functioning on its own, the Atrix 4G will have a tablet shape and a qHD (960 x 540) touchscreen.

It is going to run Android OS 2.2 on a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, making it the first smartphones widely available in the U.S. with this chip.

It will also have 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and a microSD/HC memory card slot.

This smartphone is going to be one of the first able to connect to AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network, plus it will have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.

Motorola Atrix 4G Hands-On PreviewWhen plugged in to one of its accessories, the Atrix 4G will switch to a version of Linux that offers a full desktop version of the Firefox web browser, while also still providing all the features of the Android OS.

The version of Firefox that will run in dock mode will offer a near desktop experience, with multiple windows, Adobe Flash support, etc.
