Rumors have been for circulating since last year that Motorola is preparing to release an updated version of the MPx200. Today, a leaked version of the press release for this model has appeared on the Web, confirming some details about this smartphone and indicating an approximate release time.

The press release for this Windows Mobile device has been obtained by msmobiles.com. This makes it clear that, unlike its predecessor, the MPx220 will have Bluetooth and a 1.2 megapixel camera.

It has been known for months that this model will have a clamshell design, with a screen on one side and a thumbpad, buttons, and keypad on the other. The main screen, like all handsets running this operating system, will be have a resolution of 176 by 220 pixels. On the outside will be a small screen with a clock and some phone-related information.

Motorola MPx220 Numerous pictures of this device have been leaked, but these don’t agree on what color the MPx220’s casing will use. Some of the pictures show it with a silver casing, others with a black casing. The picture with the press release shows it with the black casing.

The MPx220 will have 64MB of Flash ROM and a mini SD card slot. This model will run Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone. It is believed this won’t be the Second Edition of this operating system, which was released by Microsoft a few months ago.

Its 1.2 megapixel camera will sport a 3x zoom and a flash.

Because it has Bluetooth, it will be able to use the wireless headsets that many users want. It will also be able to use for text imput the Stowaway Universal Bluetooth Keyboard that will be available later this month.

According to previous reports, it will be 3.5 inches by 1.9 by 1.1 inches (89 mm by 48 mm by 27mm) when closed and weigh 4 ounces (113 g).

Although it doesn’t give an exact release date, the press release obtained by msmobiles.com indicates that this model will be available before the end of September.

The debut of this smartphone has been moved back several times, not because of problems with the device, but because Motorola and the wireless carriers have been unwilling to release it before they have depleted their stocks of the MPx200.

Pricing is unknown at this time, and will be up to the wireless carriers that offer this model.
