Motorola Warns That Some Smartphones Won’t Get Android OS 4.0

Over the past few months, Motorola has announced that a number of its smartphones will be getting Android OS 4.0 upgrades. However, not every one of its models will be getting upgrades.

MotorolaThe company has put out a statement on this:

You may be wondering why all devices aren’t being upgraded to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Here’s the deal. We work very closely with Google and cell phone carriers for every software update. And, obviously we want the new release to improve our devices. If we determine that can’t be done—well then, we’re not able to upgrade that particular device.

The Haves and the Have-Nots

Devices that are on the official upgrade list are the Droid Bionic, the Droid RAZR, the Droid RAZR MAXX, the Droid 4, the Photon 4G, the Atrix 4G, and the Electrify.

Motorola smartphones that have less than 1GB of RAM will not get this upgrade. This includes the Droid X2 and Droid 3, for example.
