Another month, another blown cover on a PalmOne device. According to Hitachi documents touting their new 6GB mini hard drive, PalmOne will be using this drive in an upcoming LifeDrive. Our best guess is that the new LifeDrive will be basically the same feature wise but with a larger hard drive available, sort of like Dell offering different processor speeds for the Axim X30 and X50 PDA lines.
A screenshot of the Hitachi PDF press release, last sentence reads, “The 6GB microdive will be included in the new generation of PalmOne handheld computers”
Credit goes to Spanish based website CanalPDA.com for picking up on this slip by Hitachi. Doesn’t it seem that PalmOne dies a death of a thousand cuts when it comes to trying to hide any product releases? Their retail partners and manufacturing partners leak like a sieve when it comes to keeping secrets. Expect a gush of further information as the next few weeks pass by, we’re virtually assured someone will get ahold of a marketing PDF with all the details from PalmOne on the 6GB LifeDrive sooner or later (and certainly before the release!). With SeaGate releasing an 8GB micro drive soon and research teams cramming 10GB of data onto a microdrive it reasons to believe PalmOne will continue to increase Storage capacity as cost and technology allows in future months.
