The Chinese manufacturer ZTE is set to make a strong showing in 2013 with two new high-end handsets, the ZTE Nubia Z5 and the ZTE Grand S. The ZTE Nubia Z5 was officially announced last week. The new 5-inch Android device currently holds the accolade of thinnest 5-inch 1080p smartphone. However, its counterpart, the ZTE Grand S, is rumored to soon steal that title.

The ZTE Grand S, which will unveil at CES next month, is rumored to support a 6.9-mm frame. While exceptionally thin the new phablet will not be lacking, as the device will to offer a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Touchscreen and a 13MP rear-facing camera.

While not yet confirmed, the Grand S is also rumored to share some specs with its counterpart, the Nubia Z5. The Grand S is expected to house a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB of RAM and a 2,500 mAh battery.  Besides the smaller battery, the specs are identical to the ZTE Nubia Z5.

The Grand S is speculated to be priced around 2,799 yuan (about $450 US) according to several rumors in China. If that is the case, it would make the device significantly cheaper than the Nubia Z5, which will cost roughly $100 more priced around $555 US.

The specs and pricing for the ZTE Grand S have yet to be confirmed, but consumers can expect more significant details as we draw closer to CES next month.
