Last year, Samsung put together the i550, a new Palm OS smartphone for one of the CDMA carriers. Although this device progressed to the point where it received FCC approval, it was never released.
Now, a version of this model has been introduced in China by Samsung and PalmSource.
The SCH-i539 uses a clamshell design with a screen on one side and a numberpad on the other.
Its primary display is a high-resolution touchscreen, but it also has a smaller, full-color, OLED display on its exterior to display time- and phone-related information.
The SCH-i539 runs Palm OS Garnet (5.4), and has 32 MB of RAM. It also has an SD slot for additional storage.
Like most smartphones, it includes a digital camera.
It is being offered by the Chinese wireless-service provider Anycall.
As the U.S. carriers have already passed on the i550, it is not likely that a version of the i539 will be released outside of China.
