Apple has sent out an invite to select members of the press to a special “Let’s talk iPhone” event on Oct. 4. It is thought the unveiling of the highly-anticipated iPhone 5 will be the star of the show.
The Tuesday event will be held at Apple’s at its corporate campus in Cupertino, CA. The invitation features four classic iPhone icons, showing the Tuesday date, a 10:00 a.m. (Pacific) start time, Infinite Loop location and a phone app with the number 1 next to it.
Rumors of the iPhone 5 have been buzzing since well before June. This will reportedly include a slightly larger display than its predecessors, as well as an 8MP camera.
However, the company could also introduce the iPhone 4S, which is rumored to pack an Apple A5 dual-core processor, compared to the single-core A4 chip in the current version. That said, Apple is known to hidd hints in the icons and texts of its invitations, and the “1” next to the phone icon may be signaling that there will be only one new smartphone in the offing, rather than the two that have been rumored for quite some time now.
The device maker is also likely to announce a release date for iOS 5, an update to its operating system for tablets as well as smartphones. A new iPod model may also be on the docket for Oct. 4.
Recent reports have surfaced claiming defects in a certain manufacturer’s touch panels for the iPhone 5, if these accounts have any truth, Apple may prolong the launch for the fifth generation handset until its supplies can meet the greatly-anticipated demand.
