Since PalmSource released Palm OS Cobalt to its licensees at the end of last year, many have wondered if there will be upgrades available for current models. While no companies have committed to this, at least one says it definitely won’t.
At the Games Developer Conference held last week, a reporter for Tapland had an opportunity to ask Tapwave about its plans for the next version of the Palm operating system and was “told very clearly that there will not be an upgrade for Zodiac 1/2 devices to Cobalt.”
However Tapwave is expected to release a ROM upgrade in the near future that will allow Zodiacs to play music in the background, along with many other small changes. It will also release a new version of the desktop application.
At this time, it still isn’t known for sure when the first models running Palm OS Cobalt will be released by any company.
