Nokia E72 Released in North America

Following its release in Europe before Thanksgiving, the Nokia E72 is now available for the North American market.

This Symbian-powered smartphone is an update to the very popular E71 model, and has the same general design: a tablet with a small keyboard below its display.

Nokia E72 continues the emphasis on communication seen in many recent smartphones from this company.

It ships with Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2 (v3.2), and an advanced version of the Nokia Messaging application which features personal and corporate e-mail, as well as instant messaging support.

The the E72 is a QWERTY device with a 2.4-inch QVGA (320 by 240 pixel) screen, and features an optical navigation pad, and a 5 megapixel digital camera with flash, auto-focus, and geo-tagging ability,

It also sports a GPS receiver, 3.5 mm headset jack, and a 1500mAh battery.

Physically, the E72 is only a few hundredths of a mm thicker than the E71/E71x.

Wireless Capabilities
The North American version of this smartphone is a quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) device. Its 3G support is covered with tri-band (850/1900/2100 MHz) UMTS and HSPA. This means it supports voice and 3G on AT&T’s network, and voice and 2.5G on T-Mobile. 

It also has built-in support for Wi-Fi on the 802.11b/g bands with WPA2-Enterprise, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, and WPA-Personal support.

On the software side, the E72 features the revamped Nokia Messaging email and social networking client, built-in mobile-VPN, voice control for the entire device, QuickOffice v5.3 (with a free upgrade to 6.0) for Office 2007 support, SIP/VoIP 3.0, and Voice call continuity (VoIP cell/WLAN handover).

Availability
The Nokia E72 can be purchased from the Nokia USA online store, Nokia flagship stores, and some online retailers.

It is not available through AT&T or T-Mobile outlets, and therefore can only be purchased with a subsidy through places like eXpansys USA.
