Palm Ares Lets Developers Create webOS Apps with a Web Browser

Project Ares, a new development environment for creating webOS applications, is now available in beta form to all developers. It allows them to create software for this mobile operating system using a web browser.

Palm webOSThere are already development tools for Palm’s new OS, but Ares offers a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface. It also includes a robust code editor, a visual debugger, and built-in source control integration.

Palm recommends users install the SDK, which includes the Palm Emulator and the drivers that support Ares’ ability to launch apps in the emulator or on the device.

In combination, these tools allows developers to create apps, test them, and submit them to Palm for placement on the webOS App Catalog.

Palm invites all interested developers to try out the public beta of Ares at Doing so requires registering for a free Palm developer community account.

This tool supports Safari 4 and higher, Chrome 3 and higher, and Firefox 3.5 and higher.
