Palm OS 6 details beginning to surface

Palm OS 6 is supposed to be to Palm PDA’s what OS X was to Mac’s. I consider this a good thing given the improvements of OS 5 over OS 4 are limited.

Palm OS version 6 will feature a number of things including application-level security and pluggable I/O devices. Maybe now Palm can catch up to PPC devices like the Toshiba e740 which allows peripherals to be connected via USB port.

OS 6 will also incorporate an emulation layer that will allow programs designed for OS 4 and OS 5 to be run. Other features incllude support for Microsoft’s .NET framework, better PIM architecture and a more advanced API.

Release is targeted for early 3Q 2003.

The Register has more.
