In the weeks before New Handhelds are expected to be introduced, it’s quite normal for rumors about them to fly around.
Some of these seem quite plausible, others less so.
For example, most people would find the descriptions circulating now about a pair of upcoming devices from Palm to be quite reasonable and possible.
However, other rumors seem less likely.
What’s in a Name?
For example, in a recent piece of software, Palm accidentally included references to a Z22 and TX handhelds.
It has been widely assumed that the full names of these devices will be the Zire 22 and Tungsten T.
However, citing a distributor of Palm devices, a source has told Brighthand that these models will be called the Tungsten Z22 and Tungsten TX.
In addition, the entire Zire sub-brand will supposedly be phased out, leaving Palm with the Tungsten, Treo, and Mobile Manager categories.
Handhelds and Rumors of Handhelds
According to rumors the TX (or whatever its final name is) will have a Hi-Res+ screen, WiFi and Bluetooth, a 312 MHz processor, and 128 MB of Storage ($300).
Supposedly, the Z22 will be the first Palm with a color screen to debut at $100. It will be a bare-bones model with a 200 MHz processor and 32 MB of RAM.
