Palm to replace faulty cradles for the m500/505 Palm officially announced this weekend a plan to replace all of the faulty cradles from the m500/505 series devices. Owners have long been complaining about the sync failing after a period of time. Last November, Palm accepted that these failures were happening because of a static electricity buildup that was scrambling the internal software. “Essentially it’s an electrostatic discharge” issue, Palm spokeswoman Marlene Somsak said, adding that the problem tends to be worse in dry climates and during the winter. However, they took no steps to replace the cradles and device owners had to fight them for a new one. What s more, many of the replacement cradles were the same exact model and shorted out again. Well, now Palm s sending email to all registered m500/505 owners to give them information on trading in their old cradle for a slightly modified one. The new units have a sticker with the letter E on the bottom of them. This action should finally resolve this long standing issue.
