Axim software bug halts shipments

Earlier this week we noted that Axim PocketPCs which were shipping with the Windows Mobile 2003 operating system were reportedly showing noticibly poorer performance than older units running PocketPC 2002. In a further development, Dell has acknowledged the problem, and ceased shipment of new machines until it is corrected.

According to Dell’s statement, the issue is not in the Windows Mobile 2003 operating system, nor in the Axim’s hardware, but in new software created by Dell for inclusion with the X5’s new OS.

While no specific time-frame is given for when the I find it hard to believe that Dell would stop shipments entirely unless this were a relatively short-term problem that was not worth disrupting their Windows Mobile 2003 roll-out and returning to PocketPC 2002 over.
