PalmOne reports higher profits, lower forecast

PalmOne reported a profitable quarter on Monday, but the news was not all good. The company had a net income of $19.6 million for the first quarter, compared to a net loss of $16.9 million in the same quarter a year ago. However, at the earnings conference call Monday afternoon, PalmOne execs cautioned that the second quarter earnings would likely be significantly below analyst expectations, resulting in the stock giving back its gains and more in trading after-hours on Monday and normal hours Tuesday. PalmOne stock fell 15% on Tuesday to $31.60.



New 667 MHz processor from Samsung

Samsung has developed a new ARM processor that runs at 667 MHz, an even higher clock speed than Intel’s reigning 624 MHz XScale processor. While it’s unclear whether the Samsung will actually outperform the XScale, but in the past Samsung processors have been competitive with equivalently clocked XScales.
