Sharp increases CGS LCD production

Sharp has started another production line of their Continuous Grain Silicon LCD display technology. The new LCDs are able to pack twice the pixels per area of other display types, as well as being lighter and thinner. CGS displays are used on the Sharp Zaurus C700 line, all of which support a 640 x 480 full-VGA screen. The new production brings Sharp’s total capacity for the new LCDs up to 6.5 million two-inch LCDs per month. Most of these will end up being used on digital cameras, camcorders, cellular phones, and other such devices, but it’s only a matter of time before they start showing up in more handheld computers.
