In an interesting cross-branding move, Michelin will give away Zire’s with four new tires
PDAs are everywhere and the Palm Zire has reached nearly 1,000,000 units sold. Maybe Michelin will push them over the top with this offer. Hey, people love to get things for free and this is actually a nice “prize.” What a great gift for the wife or kids who want a basic PIM.
The main reason for the cross-promotion, Mr. Wirt said, is that Michelin found in consumer surveys that a hand-held computer might be a way to lure new tire buyers to its 15,000 retail outlets in this country. More from The New York Times. Would a free Zire sway your buying decision?

ViewSonic has announced plans to sell their V35 in the UK
From The Register:
ViewSonic is to bring its V35 PocketPC PDA to the UK market. The V35 contains a 300MHz Intel XScale processor, 64MB of SDRAM and 32MB of Flash ROM. Expansion is provided by a single SD card slot.
ViewSonic claims that, at 249, the V35 is the “lowest-priced” PocketPC in its class, but we note that Dell’s 300MHz Axim X5 PDA is only 184 with a recharge cradle – 65 is a lot to pay for just 32 extra megabytes of RAM.
That said, the V35 is rather lighter than the Dell. It weights 4.2oz; the Axim X5 is 6.9oz. Both models sport a 3.5in 240×320 16-bit colour display.
Pumatech has bought Starfish from Motorola
San Jose, Calif.-based Pumatech said that the acquisition closed Thursday and that the two groups have already begun working together. Starfish will remain a separate subsidiary, which is how it operated at Motorola. The companies did not disclose terms of the deal.
Pumatech’s IntelliSync software allows portable devices–mainly handhelds–to synchronize contact lists, e-mail messages and other information with PCs and servers. Starfish’s TrueSync software performs similar functions between cell phones and servers. Both products target corporate customers. Combined, the two companies hold 50 patents, according to Clyde Foster, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Pumatech. More from News.com.
