Gateway prepping a PDA?
I don’t think I like this very much, but Gateway might release a Pocket PC based PDA in the relative near future. Taking the lead from Dell, Gateway is looking to brand a number of consumer electronics and accessories as their own.
Executives at Gateway’s annual financial analyst meeting in San Diego said Thursday that the company intends to revamp its retail stores and launch a broad range of new products for businesses and consumers. The list of products includes computers, PDAs (personal digital assistants), networking gear and services, home-theater equipment–and even furniture.
“In 2003, we have two major goals for the business. One is to transform the company very rapidly form a PC company to what we’re calling a branded integrator. Number two is to get profitable and stay that way,” said Ted Waitt, Gateway’s CEO, at the meeting. More from ZD Net…
News.com is confirming NEC’s plans to release the P900 this month
Of course bargainPDA.com regulars know this is old news, but we now have a release date of later this month, which we did not know before. The P900 is a Handheld PC, the PDA laptop hybrid. The market for devices like these is obviously not huge, it remains to be seen if this is a viable market.
The device–which will be pitched to niche markets such as hospitals and companies with a sales force out in the field–essentially tries to combine the attractive elements of two different product categories.
Like a PDA (personal digital assistant), the MobilePro contains an energy-efficient processor and can survive up to eight hours on a single battery charge, or five hours when connected to a Wi-Fi network. More from News.com…

The Palm OS gaming machine has a new promotional video
They won’t show the device yet, but this video represents what the video and some of the games will look like. Pretty nice if they can deliver what they say they can. The video takes a very long time to load, so get a sandwich and come back.
