New details about rumored Palm releases
New information is circulating around the rumored three New Handhelds from Palm Solutions Group, expected out October 1st. The new source claims that the higher-end model is indeed the Tungsten T3, though they say that it will retail for $399, which is rather ridiculous on the face of it: this is the same retail price as the Tungsten T2 which has less memory and a smaller screen. More than likely, a mistake has been made, and the retail price will be $499, which would be in line with expectations.
The other two new releases are claimed to be the Tungsten E, an entry-level business device retailing for $199, and the Zire 21, an update to the original low-end consumer model, priced at $99.
Sandisk delays SDIO WiFi card – AGAIN
It’s no wonder that SDIO WiFi cards got the reputation as vaporware when the manufacturers keep delaying them. Hot on the heels of their most recent delay (prior ship date was August 1st) Sandisk is delaying the card another week, so that it may be bundled with a trial version of the ThunderHawk proxied web browsing service. Someone please force me to care. I would expect that those users who have been waiting over a year since the first announcements of SDIO WiFi cards would simply like their cards NOW, and could live if the first batch shipped WITHOUT the free trial.
This makes approximately the 600th time that the release of Sandisk’s card has been delayed, although it will be available any minute now! The original release date was the fourth quarter. Of last year.
Memory/wireless combo CF cards for sale
On to a new product which is actually for sale. The first of the CompactFlash combo cards are available, mating 128 MB of flash memory to a WiFi network adapter, so that you don’t have to switch cards. Ecost.com is stocking them at $99 minus $20 rebate through the 31st. While these are nice, they will be a lot more useful if the SDIO versions ever come out (ALSO supposed to be released in March, now scheduled for 2014) since most devices that have only one expansion slot have SD rather than CF.
Bluetooth drivers for Tungsten W
Palm has released drivers for their Bluetooth SDIO card that let it function on the Tungsten W.
