T-Mobile has decided not to release a Microsoft powered Smartphone

I’m not sure I can blame them. For all the hype surrounding the Orange SPV, I’m not sold on the OS or the underlying hardware. It seems a substantial part of the problem was hardware reliability in this case. From the report:

Europe’s second largest mobile phone operator T-Mobile International said on Thursday it had shelved plans to introduce a mobile phone powered by Microsoft software.

“We have decided not to introduce this phone,” a T-Mobile spokesman said on the sidelines of a Deutsche Telekom news conference. “For the time being, we are not pursuing this project further.”

T-Mobile announced in February it planned to introduce the Microsoft phone this summer in a move analysts saw as a blow to mobile handset industry leader Nokia.

But industry sources said the phone from the world’s largest software maker still had “fundamental problems” leading to high failure rates. More…

Dell has produced its best first quarter ever

We usually don’t spend too much time getting wrapped up in PDA manufacturer financial results, but sometimes there’s a little gem hidden away in these reports. Handspring has teased their new Treo more than a few times at the end of a fiscal period. Unfortunately Dell didn’t follow suit, in fact they didn’t mention the Axim Line at all. I was hoping for confirmation at least of the new X3 and X7 we’ve been dreaming about. Alas, today is not the day. Anyway, they did well. If you want to see the reports, here you go.

The best Consumer Electronics Show in the US has confirmed its dates

We had a great time bringing you news from last year’s CES in near real time. I might be biased, but I felt we had better PDA related coverage than any other media outlet. Anyway, the time has come to begin planning for next year already. The CES will be held from January 8th through the 11th in Las Vegas. You know we’ll be there to bring you all the latest news. I just wonder what that will be…

Covertec has announced a new line of screen protectors

Covertec has been selling a range of standard quality PDA Screen protectors for a while now. While they were pleased with the product, they wanted to step it up a bit and have done so with their latest offering. A very high quality unit made from a new special material is designed to increase its life and improve usability.

The new line is especially adapted to the PDA screens of: Palm, Sony, HP-Compaq and Dell. They are now selling in Europe on the Covertec site for 12.90 Euro, including VAT (pack of two). For USA and Canada it will be available soon on their site and at other resellers.

We have test Axim units on the way and will report back with a full review.

Afzane is back with another one of their flash-based games for Pocket PC

From the site:

You play Bob the Aquarius Pet Store owner, who finds out in the morning that the mischievous Tabbby cat had sneaked into your pet store. Tabby goes straight for the fish tank to get his next meal!

Frightened, the pet fishes in the aquarium leaped out of the tank to get to the other across the room. You must help Bob catch all the fish in the air. Do not drop the fish or Tabby the cat will get an easy meal!

Afzane is know for producing high quality games that are challanging and priced right. This one is $4.99. We’ll be working up a full review but if you don’t want to wait, you may purchase from Handango [product link].
